Tatra Mountains Tours from Krakow
Private day trips from Krakow to Kasprowy Wierch, Kościeliska and Chochołowska valleys, or Štrbské Pleso in Slovakia, with hotel pickup and an English-speaking driver.
Four Tatra routes that are different from a Zakopane day
A Zakopane tour focuses on the town, Krupówki street and Gubałówka hill. A Morskie Oko tour is built around one long lake walk. The routes below are for travelers who want a different side of the Tatras: high mountain views, quiet valleys or two countries in one day.
1. Kasprowy Wierch cable car (high mountain views)
The cable car starts in Kuźnice, at the edge of Zakopane, and climbs to Kasprowy Wierch at about 1,987 m on the Polish–Slovak border. At the top you get wide views over the High Tatras without a long hike. Tickets sell out on busy days, so we recommend buying a timed ticket online before the trip. Strong wind can stop the cable car, so we always plan a backup stop for the same day.
2. Dolina Kościeliska (easy valley walk)
Kościeliska Valley is one of the most beautiful and gentle walks in the Tatra National Park. The path follows a mountain stream between limestone cliffs and is suitable for families and relaxed walkers. Many visitors walk to the Ornak mountain hut for lunch and return the same way. A Tatra National Park entry ticket is required.
3. Dolina Chochołowska and Chochołów village
Chochołowska Valley is the largest valley on the Polish side and is famous for purple crocus fields in early spring. Nearby, the village of Chochołów has a street of traditional wooden highlander houses, a good stop for photos and local atmosphere on the way back.
4. Slovak Tatras: Štrbské Pleso
For a two-country day, the route crosses into Slovakia to Štrbské Pleso, a glacial lake surrounded by peaks with an easy walking path around the shore. Poland and Slovakia are both in the Schengen area, but every traveler should carry a passport or ID card. Slovakia uses the euro. This is a longer day, so it is quoted separately.
Which Tatra route is right for you?
| Route | Best for | Walking | Day length |
|---|---|---|---|
| Kasprowy Wierch | Big mountain views with little effort | Low | 9-10 hours |
| Dolina Kościeliska | Nature, families, relaxed walkers | Easy to moderate | 9-10 hours |
| Chochołowska + Chochołów | Spring flowers, villages, culture | Easy to moderate | 9-10 hours |
| Štrbské Pleso (Slovakia) | Two countries, lake scenery | Easy | 11-12 hours |
Seasonal tips
Summer gives long days and open trails but also the biggest crowds, so an early pickup helps. Spring brings crocuses in Chochołowska Valley and fewer visitors. Autumn colors are excellent in the valleys. In winter, Kasprowy Wierch becomes a ski area and road conditions affect timing, so we keep the plan flexible. Mountain weather changes quickly, so warm layers and good shoes are recommended in every season.

Tatra Mountains Tours from Krakow FAQ
Is this the same as a Zakopane tour?
No. The Zakopane tour focuses on the town and Gubałówka. These routes focus on Kasprowy Wierch, the valleys of the Tatra National Park or the Slovak side.
Which route needs the least walking?
Kasprowy Wierch by cable car and the shore path at Štrbské Pleso need the least effort.
Can we include Morskie Oko?
Possibly, but Morskie Oko makes the day more walking-focused and should be planned as its own route.
Is a mountain guide included?
No. This is private driver transport. Specialist guiding is separate.
Do we need a passport for Slovakia?
There are normally no border checks inside Schengen, but each traveler should carry a valid passport or ID card.
